I am so thrilled to share a bit about Mary Elizabeth, the lovely designer behind our newest mini fabric #findthejoytoday notebooks. We had the amazing opportunity of meeting at our monthly Inspire Gatherings at Mercy Multiplied. She is oh-so-sweet and beyond talented in creating, so without further ado, here is a bit about her and her design process. Isn’t her work gorgeous?!
P.S. You can get this gorgeous #findthejoytoday notebook here if you haven’t had a chance yet.
I felt so honored when Tiffany asked if I would like to contribute a floral design for The Inspire Shop.
I began exploring various art forms at a very young age. After being tutored in drawing in high school, I decided to pursue further education. I graduated with a fine arts degree from Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia.
The professors I had were some of the best examples I’ve had in life, and they gave me so much more than just a skill set through their education. Since graduation, I’ve done the most work in watercolor. Watercolor painting has always provided a space for me to pull away from the busyness of life, and be fully engaged in the present moment.
Colors that communicated passion kept coming to mind, so I chose to use a vivid red to fill in this illustration. First, I sketched it using colored pencils, and then did a second illustration in watercolor.
Depending on the subject, I normally do either a similar sketch first, or use pencil to lightly outline the image I am painting. Then, I fill in the image using several layers of watercolor painting, with as many different hues as is needed.
