Advent starts in just one month from today, Sunday. November 29th! I know it is early but I hope you feel the excitement brewing over here.
This year we are inviting you into our Advent family traditions through our Advent Creative Bible Study kit.
Advent was not something that I grew up celebrating. It was not until I started following Jesus in college that I was introduced to it at church. Each Sunday a family from church was asked to read a passage of scripture and light a candle, which surprisingly has shown to be difficult to light from the stage. Most years a lighter has been brought up to the family after multiple attempts, perhaps that is part of the tradition, too.
Advent originated in Spain and Europe, eventually making its way to the states. It has been a way to usher in the true meaning of Christmas - a focus on the birth of Christ - from the consumeristic celebration.
To get into the Advent tradition, I am sharing a free download of my hand-drawn scripture print from A Celebration of Advent, our devotional from the Advent Creative Bible Study.
Print it on your favorite paper to color using your favorite medium. Watercolor is my current favorite.
